Where are you from?

I am from Carroll County, Georgia.

What does a day in your position look like?

I am the Family and Consumer Sciences agent for Carroll County Extension. My job looks different each day, but the majority of my time is spent in the community delivering programs that are focused on health education.

If I am not in the community delivering health education programs, I am supervising my program assistant in his work. We provide SNAP education, and on an average day, I work on getting partnership agreements signed, building upon current partnerships, and seeking new partnerships in the community where our SNAP educator can offer programming.

Why did you choose to be a part of Extension?

I chose to be a part of UGA Extension because I have always wanted to be part of an organization that helps others. I knew that after college it was my goal to be with an organization that solely focuses on making the community a better place.

This would allow me to use my degree, and within the same organization, I can do what I was called to do: to serve others.

What has been your best experience as part of UGA Extension?

I think the best experience I have had with Extension thus far is the impact we make on the community. It is a very rewarding feeling when participants make a big change in their life, and we are the reason behind it.

I have seen participants come off of chronic disease medication, begin exercising and seek preventive care. This is all because of the work we do with Extension.

How has your experience in the organization changed you?

My experience with Extension so far has been wonderful. I have had several opportunities that I do not think I would have gotten if it were not for Extension.

It has allowed me to be creative with my work, to think outside the box, and to put my creative ideas into motion. I have not had one idea be turned down, and that is what is so cool with Extension. You are able to put your passions and work together.

What do you like to do outside of work — hobbies, interests, secret talents?

Outside of work I am usually hiking with my pup named Christmas, attending a Georgia football game or exercising.

I am also a personal trainer and yoga instructor, so outside of work I am often teaching group fitness classes, personal training, or doing some other active activity!

My secret talent is that I can say the alphabet backwards. 😉
